~~~Melanie's 11th Birthday~~~
I have about 57.5 girls in my house giggling, running around and filling me in on all the latest gossip about so-and-so at school, Mrs. _____ is a meanie, someone blew snot bubbles out of their nose during a school project, she's in love with him, and of course the usual happenings that occur during girl's sleepovers--egging, toilet papering, prank calls, ice cream, pillow fights...okay, only two of those have happened thus far.
We started at the theater I'd reserved for the girls where they watched Journey to the Center of the Earth and had popcorn and drinks, birthday cake and gifts. Melanie wasn't very sure about the cake when she saw it taking shape as she'd wanted an Eiffel tower on a round cake. She knows me better than that!!! An Eiffel was in the making and there was no going back. Like always, she was pleased with the end result. Afterwards, we went to the indoor pool for an hour or so and enjoyed the warm escape from the cold weather we've been having lately.
We did have one little emergency with one of the girls. While swimming, her hair got caught in her earring and it pulled the earring out just enough to pull the back of the earring into the earring hole in her ear. I pulled the front of the earring out hoping the back would pop out at some point...no luck. You couldn't even see the back but rather could feel the lump inside her ear. We called her mom and and she came over to try to (painfully) remove the back. I was willing to do it, but it wasn't my child and I knew I'd hurt her in the process. After much manipulating, her mom asked for my help again. She braced herself, gripping mom's hand and I was the designated earring-back-puller-outer. I gave it my all (grimacing inside knowing I was hurting the poor girl) and got it out...whew! No slipping, no broken bones and for the most part...no blood. It's been a great afternoon...
We came back to the house where the girls went gaga for the grandbaby, Sienna when Carlos and Melody stopped by to see us on their way over to Carlos' brother's. Later we had hot dogs and the trimmings, more sweets and they're watching movies now. The girls have promised me they'll wind down around 10. I'm guessing it will be closer to midnight...if I'm lucky. These girls are sleepover professionals.
Photos for now for those who've missed her birthday.
